release cycle
- Joined the product at its early stage as a Founding Engineer, contributing to the development of a large-scale construction software platform used by customers across Australia.
- Owned and contributed to approximately 80% of the product's development, working across core features and workflows from initial discovery and architecture through production.
- Designed and established the frontend architecture from the ground up using React.js and TypeScript, building scalable, maintainable, and high-performance user interfaces.
- Built core modules end to end across 3,800+ commits: tenders and procurement, budgets and cost-to-complete reports, progress claims, program scheduling, site diaries, timesheets, defects, handover, and much of the safety and quality suite.
- Integrated third-party services and designed the data schema behind them, including Google Docs for contract templates with dynamic variables and DocuSign for multi-signer e-signatures on contracts and subcontracts.
- Designed and built the core engines: role-based access (236 permission keys), approval workflows for 19 record types, comments across ~12 modules, and the budget engine with its v2 rebuild.
- Delivered Plexa Documents solo with Claude as the implementation partner: a native macOS and Windows desktop app (Tauri, Rust, React) for construction document control. I wrote the product context and specifications from how each feature works in the web app, then directed, reviewed, and validated the AI-generated code, taking it from an empty repository to a signed, self-updating release pipeline in two weeks.
- Worked directly with the company founder and Australian stakeholders to understand product vision, business requirements, and complex construction workflows, translating them into effective technical solutions.
- Contributed to backend architecture and technical decisions when needed, leveraging previous full-stack experience to design cohesive end-to-end solutions across frontend, APIs, and data flows.
- Collaborated with designers, backend engineers, product stakeholders, and business teams to deliver new features and product improvements on a weekly release cycle.
- Followed a structured task-to-code traceability and release workflow, linking commits to task tickets and documenting technical changes, environment-specific commits, regression risks, and supporting documentation. Communicated over Google Meet and recorded narrated Loom and Jam.dev videos to walk stakeholders through completed features, report on tasks, and explain complex questions clearly.
- Helped the engineering team grow from 3 developers to approximately 15, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship while sharing knowledge of existing architecture, business logic, and development practices.
- Maintained deep ownership and knowledge of the platform's business workflows, data flows, system integrations, and technical architecture, enabling effective troubleshooting and informed engineering decisions.
- Built the platform hands-on from its early stages, before AI-assisted development. Since 2026 I occasionally use Claude, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT to speed up selected tasks; on those, I scope the change from my knowledge of the codebase and its business rules (which modules, data flows, and edge cases it touches), guide the implementation, and review and test it before it is pushed.
